Connecting Bing Webmaster Tools

Bing accounts for 8-15% of US/UK search traffic depending on vertical. Connecting Bing Webmaster Tools unlocks Bing index coverage data, performance queries, and the IndexNow protocol for instant URL submission to Bing, Yandex, Naver and Seznam.

Prerequisites

• A verified site in Bing Webmaster Tools.
• A Microsoft account with Admin or Read & Modify role on the site.

Two authentication methods

OAuth (recommended)

1. Settings → Integrations → Bing Webmaster Tools → Connect (OAuth).
2. Microsoft OAuth window opens. Pick the account, grant the read scope.
3. Pick the verified site(s) to connect.
4. Save. Initial sync runs immediately.

API key (legacy)

For self-hosted SEMOptimiser deployments that cannot reach Microsoft's OAuth endpoints, you can use an API key:

1. In Bing Webmaster Tools, click your account icon → Settings → API Access.
2. Generate an API key. Copy it.
3. In SEMOptimiser: Settings → Integrations → Bing Webmaster Tools → Connect (API key) and paste.

Data we pull

Bing rank tracking

Connecting Bing Webmaster doesn't automatically start tracking your keywords on Bing – those are separate. Add a keyword and pick engine = Bing to track Bing rankings. See "Adding keywords in bulk".

API limits

Bing Webmaster API has a 10,000 calls per day limit per API key. We use ~200-400/day per connected site for sync. The IndexNow endpoint is separate and has no public limit (practical ceiling ~50k/day per domain).

Disconnect

OAuth: Settings → Integrations → Bing → Disconnect. API key: same place; revokes the saved key. To rotate the key without disconnecting, regenerate in Bing Webmaster, paste the new one.
