Sourcing the right prompts, mix of branded/unbranded, prompt quality rubric.
Bad prompts produce noise. Good prompts produce a leading indicator of how your brand shows up across every LLM. This page covers how to source prompts and a rubric for grading them before you commit to tracking.
Grade each candidate prompt against five questions before adding it:
| Category prompts (unbranded) | 50%. "best SEO audit tool for agencies", "AI visibility tracker comparison". These tell you category position. |
| Branded prompts | 20%. "is SEMOptimiser good for agencies?", "SEMOptimiser vs Ahrefs". These tell you reputation. |
| Use-case prompts | 20%. "how do I track keyword rankings across 50 client sites". These reveal which use cases LLMs associate you with. |
| Problem prompts | 10%. "my SEO audit is missing pages". These tell you whether you're cited as a fix-source for problems in your space. |
Start small: 10-20 prompts you genuinely care about. Tracking 200 prompts that nobody asks isn't signal – it's noise. Add prompts as you discover them in real customer conversations.

Review your prompt list quarterly. Drop ones that consistently return generic answers (LLMs don't cite anyone, including competitors). Add new ones based on the past quarter's customer conversations.
